RITUAL ADAT POSUO PADA MASYARAKAT BUTON DALAM PERSPEKTIF HUKUM ISLAM DAN KEARIFAN LOKAL DI KOTA SAMARINDA

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand how the Butonese community in Samarinda carries out the posuo (seclusion) traditional ritual and to analyze it from the perspective of Islamic law and local wisdom. This research employs a socio-legal approach to identify the main points of discussion. First, the author describes the process of performing the posuo (seclusion) ritual conducted by the Butonese community in Samarinda. Second, the author analyzes the implementation of this traditional ritual from the standpoint of Islamic law and local wisdom. Based on the findings, the implementation of the posuo (seclusion) ritual contains several prohibitions that must be observed by the participants, such as the prohibition against contact with water during the ritual except for defecation or urination, the prohibition against exposure to sunlight, and the prohibition against being seen by men other than their father or brothers. These prohibitions cause participants to experience difficulties in fulfilling their religious obligations as Muslims while confined in a special room. Although some participants continue to perform their prayers, they encounter various challenges in doing so. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce modifications or adjustments to the implementation of the posuo ritual so that it continues to honor traditional values while also facilitating participants in performing their prayers in accordance with Islamic teachings
