Moderate Da'wah In The Digital Age: Challenges And Ethics In Social Media: An Islamic Perspective And Local Wisdom

Abstract


The development of information technology has driven the transformation of da'wah from conventional spaces to digital media. This change presents both opportunities and challenges, especially as social media has become a space that is vulnerable to the spread of hate speech, provocation, and non-moderate religious content. This study aims to analyse the challenges of moderate da'wah in the digital age and formulate da'wah ethics that are in line with Islamic principles and local wisdom. Using a qualitative research method based on literature study, data was obtained through a review of books, journals, and relevant literature discussing digital da'wah, religious moderation, and local cultural values. The results of the study show that digital da'wah faces a number of major challenges, including the dominance of radical groups in cyberspace, the lack of media control by moderate groups, and internal problems among preachers such as psychological turmoil, lust, and unhealthy competition. On the other hand, moderate da'wah requires the application of specific ethics, such as sincerity, patience, the use of polite language, and the avoidance of unproductive debates. In addition, a local wisdom-based approach through the methods of bil hikmah, mau'izhah hasanah, and good mujadalah has proven to be relevant in creating peaceful, inclusive, and contextual da'wah. This study emphasises that moderate da'wah practitioners in the digital era should ideally possess contextual, tolerant, tradition-preserving, progressive, and forward-thinking characteristics
