Abstract

This study aims to analyze the content and multimodal elements in the bilingual children's book Aku Bisa Mengendalikan Amarahku (I Can Control My Anger) used in the context of early childhood education. The background of the study is based on the importance of literacy media that not only develop children's language skills but also instill moral and social values from an early age, especially through bilingual children's books that combine text and illustrations. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive approach with a combined method of content analysis and multimodal discourse analysis. The object of the study covers all pages of the book, with the units of analysis being the Indonesian-English bilingual text, visual illustrations, character expressions and gestures, color, page layout, and the relationship between verbal and visual modes. The content analysis focuses on themes, character values, moral messages, and character characterization, while the multimodal analysis examines the integration of text and images through the concept of intersemiotic complementarity. The research findings revealed a comprehensive understanding of how moral messages and character values are effectively conveyed through the synergy of language and visuals in bilingual children's books. This research contributes to the development of multimodal literacy and early childhood biliteracy studies, particularly in the context of early childhood education in Indonesia.
