AUTHORSHIP CRITERIA

Scholarly Contribution, Recognition, and Accountability

Jurnal Ilmiah Islamic Resources (JIIR) recognizes authorship as both scholarly credit and responsibility. Every listed author must make a substantive intellectual contribution and satisfy all four criteria below.

1. Requirements for Authorship

  1. Substantial Contribution
Contribute significantly to the research concept or design, or to the collection, analysis, or interpretation of sources or data. Relevant contributions may involve Islamic texts, historical records, educational settings, interviews, surveys, or religious media.
  2. Writing and Intellectual Revision
Draft the manuscript or critically revise its arguments, interpretations, or other substantive intellectual content.
  3. Approval of the Final Version
Approve the manuscript submitted to the journal and the final version to be published.
  4. Accountability
Accept responsibility for the work and cooperate in investigating and resolving concerns about its accuracy, integrity, or ethical conduct.
All Four Criteria Must Be Met

A contribution to one activity alone does not automatically establish authorship. Those making substantial intellectual contributions must have the opportunity to participate in manuscript revision and final approval.

2. Contribution Statements and Acknowledgements

Authors must provide a contribution statement identifying each author's actual role. The author list and order must be agreed upon collectively before submission.

Funding acquisition, institutional position, administrative support, general supervision, proofreading, or translation alone does not qualify a person for authorship. Contributors who do not meet all four criteria may be acknowledged with their permission.

3. Corresponding Author

The corresponding author coordinates communication with the journal and is responsible for:

  • Verifying that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria.
  • Ensuring that no eligible author has been omitted.
  • Confirming agreement on author order and contributions.
  • Providing accurate author names, affiliations, and contact details.
  • Obtaining all authors' approval of submission and final publication.
  • Coordinating declarations and responses to editorial queries.

4. Changes to Authorship

Requests to add or remove an author, or change the author order, must include a reason and written agreement from all affected authors, including anyone being added or removed. Changes require editorial approval.

Approved changes after publication must be documented through a formal correction. Editorial processing may be paused while an authorship disagreement remains unresolved.

5. Inappropriate Authorship and AI Tools

Guest, honorary, gift, and ghost authorship are prohibited. Authorship must reflect actual intellectual contributions rather than status, payment, personal relationships, or institutional influence.

Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot approve publication or assume accountability. Human authors remain responsible for the manuscript and must disclose substantive AI use according to the journal's requirements.

6. Authorship Disputes

Concerns should be reported to the editorial office with relevant evidence. The journal may request clarification and refer unresolved disputes to the appropriate institution. Editors do not independently adjudicate disputed contributions that require institutional investigation.

AUTHORSHIP DECLARATION

“All listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria, approve the author order and contribution statement, and have approved submission of this manuscript.”
