CORRECTIONS, RETRACTION AND WITHDRAWAL
Maintaining an Accurate and Transparent Scholarly Record
1. Purpose and Principles
Jurnal Ilmiah Islamic Resources (JIIR) maintains the accuracy and integrity of its publications. Errors and concerns are assessed according to their effect on the reliability of the work, the rights of those involved, and the scholarly record.
Corrections and retractions serve to inform readers and protect reliable scholarship. They are not intended as punishment. Editorial action may be necessary whether a problem results from honest error or misconduct.
2. Corrections
A correction may be issued when a published article contains an error requiring clarification but its principal findings remain reliable. Examples include:
- Errors in author names, affiliations, or publication metadata.
- Incorrect references, labels, tables, or figures.
- Limited errors in quotations, translations, or source attribution.
- Omitted funding or competing-interest disclosures.
- Approved changes to authorship supported by appropriate evidence.
Substantive corrections will identify the affected article, explain the change, and remain linked to it. Where article files are updated, the changes and update date should be clearly recorded.
3. Retraction of Published Articles
Retraction may be necessary when:
- Findings or central arguments are unreliable because of serious analytical errors, fabricated evidence, or falsified data.
- Substantial plagiarism or unjustified duplicate publication is established.
- Serious ethical breaches undermine the legitimacy of the research.
- Manipulation of peer review or the publication process materially compromises the assessment.
- An undisclosed competing interest materially undermines the interpretation or reliability of the work.
Differences in theological interpretation, scholarly perspective, or reasoned academic criticism are not sufficient grounds for retraction. An authorship dispute alone does not justify retraction when the published findings remain reliable.
4. Assessment Procedure
- The editor examines the concern and available supporting evidence.
- Authors are contacted for an explanation and relevant materials.
- Independent expertise or institutional investigation may be sought where necessary.
- An editor without a relevant conflict evaluates the appropriate action.
- The journal communicates its decision and publishes a notice where required.
Authors will have an opportunity to respond, but their agreement is not required when sufficient evidence supports correction or retraction. A decision may proceed when authors cannot be reached or do not respond.
5. Retraction Notices and Article Availability
A retraction notice will:
- Identify the article by title, authors, and DOI or URL.
- State who is retracting the article and explain the reasons.
- Distinguish established facts from unresolved concerns.
- Be freely accessible and linked to the affected article.
Retracted articles normally remain available with a clear retraction label on the article page and downloadable file. The publication record must not be silently deleted or replaced.
6. Expressions of Concern
The journal may publish an expression of concern when credible questions about an article remain unresolved, an investigation is pending, or the available evidence does not yet support a final decision. The notice will explain the concern and be updated when an outcome becomes available.
7. Withdrawal Before Publication
Authors wishing to withdraw an unpublished manuscript must submit a written request through OJS or the editorial office. Include the manuscript ID, title, reason for withdrawal, and confirmation that all co-authors agree.
The editorial office will acknowledge the request and confirm the manuscript's status. Authors should obtain written confirmation of withdrawal before submitting the manuscript to another journal.
Withdrawal does not prevent the journal from examining credible integrity concerns arising during submission. Once an article is publicly published online, including as an online-first article, concerns are handled through post-publication procedures rather than routine withdrawal.
8. Exceptional Content Removal
Removal is reserved for exceptional circumstances, such as a binding legal requirement, serious privacy violation, or substantial risk of harm that cannot be addressed adequately by a correction or retraction. Where possible, bibliographic information and an explanatory notice will remain publicly available.
9. Reporting Concerns and Appeals
Readers, authors, and institutions may report concerns with specific evidence. Reports should identify the article, affected passages or materials, and relevant supporting sources.
Authors may appeal by presenting new evidence or identifying a factual or procedural error. Appeals concerning an editor's conflict or conduct will be considered by another qualified, independent person. An appeal does not automatically suspend a published notice.
Submit withdrawal requests, correction requests, and publication-integrity concerns through the JIIR editorial office . Include the manuscript ID or article DOI where available.
